On March 3, SANY’s new-generation ultra-high pressure trailer pump was shipped from Changsha to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where it will participate in the construction of the Jeddah Tower, a landmark skyscraper planned to reach a height of 1,008 meters. The shipment marks another milestone for China’s high-end equipment manufacturing and advanced concrete pumping technology. Chen Tianming, Assistant President of SANY Group and General Manager of the Pumping Company, along with He Zhiwei, Deputy Director of the Pumping Research Institute, attended the dispatch ceremony.

Jeddah Tower is set to become the world’s first skyscraper to exceed the 1,000-meter mark. The project incorporates advanced structural systems designed for wind resistance, seismic stability, and high-temperature endurance, while integrating cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent construction, energy-efficient design, and high-speed elevator systems.

Chen Tianming noted that the extreme height of the Jeddah Tower represents both a challenge and a showcase for China’s manufacturing capabilities and SANY’s four decades of technological expertise. In addition to the ultra-high pressure trailer pump, SANY’s long-boom pump trucks and concrete mixer trucks will also be deployed to support the project.

Pumping concrete to a height of one kilometer presents major engineering challenges, particularly in maintaining extremely high pressure throughout the delivery pipeline. The pipeline stretches nearly a kilometer, with individual pipes connected every three meters. Each connection must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage, which could cause moisture loss and lead to blockages in the concrete flow. Additionally, constant friction between concrete and the pipe interior can significantly shorten the pipeline’s service life.

SANY’s new trailer pump addresses these challenges with a maximum pumping pressure of 60 MPa. Drawing inspiration from artillery barrel manufacturing processes, the system uses specially engineered materials and advanced heat-treatment techniques. This enables the delivery pipeline to achieve an anti-burst pressure of 138 MPa and a wear life exceeding 100,000 cubic meters of concrete, ensuring the pipeline will not need replacement throughout the project.

Operating in Saudi Arabia also requires equipment capable of withstanding extreme heat, sandstorms, and intense ultraviolet radiation. To meet these conditions, SANY engineers designed a dual power system that allows the equipment to continue operating even if one power unit shuts down. In addition, a multi-mode cooling system combining air cooling and water cooling ensures stable operation under high temperatures, large pumping volumes, and extreme pressure conditions.

Leveraging decades of technological expertise, SANY’s core R&D team spent nearly a year overcoming the project’s technical challenges. According to He Zhiwei, the pump’s engine, hydraulic system, electrical control system, and pumping system are all independently developed and manufactured by SANY, demonstrating the strong capabilities of China’s advanced equipment industry.

From the 406-meter International Finance Centre in Hong Kong to the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center, the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, and the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai, SANY’s ultra-high pressure pumping technology has continuously set new world records in super high-rise construction.
